Alan Kenneth Speiser
August 12, 1953 ~ July 1, 2024
Born in:
New York, NY
Resided in:
Livingston, NJ
It is with great sadness that we share that Alan passed away Monday evening, July 1 at his home in Livingston, NJ surrounded by his family. He was 70 years old.
Alan was a beloved son to Harry and Edythe, wife to Elaine, father to his 2 children Gillian and Matthew, and friend to countless others. His humor, levity, and compassion could raise the spirits of any room he walked into.
Born in Manhattan and raised in the Bronx, Alan treated life as an adventure, and he had the scars to prove it. He was a man of many passions, and he indulged in them as often as he could: fine wine, fast cars, rock n’ roll music, European travel, the Yankees, golf, and just a little marijuana from time to time.
To know Alan was to be absorbed by his warmth, candor, and integrity. He truly was one of one, and the world is a little colder today without him.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes friends and family donate to Project Purple ( https://www.projectpurple.org ), a nonprofit organization dedicated to pancreatic cancer research, treatment, and family support. The family will be sitting Shiva through the weekend. If interested in attending, email Matthew at spyzguyz@gmail.com.”

My deepest condolences to Alan’s family, we were high school buddies with much in common and both moved to Fort Lee from the Bronx at 15 years old . We had been in touch in recent years discovering we both married UK citizens from the same area of England and shared very similar world views. I admired his dedication to his Father who if I am correct is still with us at the young age of 105. Rest in peace dear Alan.
Alan lived his life the way he wanted with great passion. We were friends for over 40 years. I remember Alan saying he was indestructible and would live forever. Alan you will live forever in my heart and in those who knew and loved you. Rest in Peace my dear friend.
My condolences to Elaine, Gillian and Matthew
Alan was certainly unique and I enjoyed our conversations. Sending you, Jillian, Matthew and Harry my love.

Alan, my old Fort Lee High friend. You hosted my 17th surprise birthday in your parents basement, a night i will never forget. We went to many memorable concerts at the Fillmore and Capitol theater. Many many good times. Rest well old friend.

My first memory of Alan was either in September of 1967 or 1968. I met him on the corner of John St and Main St in Fort Lee while we waited for the #82 bus which left us near FLHS. He had a bit of an urban edge to him, and called me a suburban wimp, and how he was from The Bronx. I took an immediate liking to him ironically, since I possessed a similar trait in my personality. We quickly became friends, a friendship that lasted for decades. I hadn’t seen him since the early 2000’s when he came to Florida. Alan was loads of fun, and I couldn’t count the number of times it resulted in us rolling on the floor in laughter! He also had a huge and loving heart. I am shocked by his passing in spite of us having lost some of our closest friends to date. This was totally unexpected for me, and I am quite saddened that I was not aware of his illness. When Elaine informed me, I lost part of myself. Last we messaged on FB, all seemed well. Life is filled with often unexpected loss. I will miss him greatly for the rest of my days. Love and condolences to Elaine, Gillian, and Matthew for your great loss.
