Andrew Ilan Rubinstein

andrew rubinstein

Andrew Ilan Rubinstein, of Old Tappan, September 8, 2017. Andrew was the beloved husband of Karen Haynoski Rubinstein and the cherished and adored daddy of Benjamin Lael and Aaron Bear. He is also survived by his loving parents Dr. Michael and Linda Rubinstein of Providence, Rhode Island and his loving mother-in-law, Barbara Haynoski, his dear sisters, Dr. Mahra Rubinstein Shocket and her husband, Jon Shocket, Lilli Rubinstein and her fiance, Jeremy Bilgre and his niece and nephew, Natalie and Benjamin Shocket. He was also the devoted son-in-law to the late, Benjamin Haynoski. Andrew was born in Providence, Rhode Island, attended Wheeler school and St. Dunstans high school. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Hartford where he met his bride, Karen. Andrew began his career in customer service at Sony, but quickly parlayed his unique interpersonal skills into the nonprofit sector by establishing the Donor Center at UJA of New York. At UJA, he won the Ronald Lauder grant to staff JDC- Lauder International Jewish Youth Camp in Szarvas, Hungary to promote and model Jewish tradition and values to Jewish children from around the world. After creating a successful Donor Center to address the needs of its many donors, he went on to JDRF where he personally raised several thousands of dollars for the annual walk in New York City. He then delved into the non-profit Arts sector by becoming the Assistant Director of Membership at Carnegie Hall hosting many special events and rehearsals for his donors that believed in the power of the arts to bring people together. Having a steadfast career in non-profit, he was then recruited to design and implement the Membership Office at the very new 911 Memorial and Museum. Up until then, this position was the pinnacle of his career. Unfortunately, his tenure was cut short by mounting debilitating medical issues. Due to his declining health, he was forced to leave his position in order to courageously battle these medical issues full time. Andrew lived his short life with laughter, gratefulness, grace and unwavering courage. His sons, Benjamin and Aaron were the pure joy in his life and he loved them to “infinity and beyond.” Andrew’s family, friends and colleagues will always remember his quick wit, twinkling blue eyes, gentleness, bravery and unyielding tenacity in the crux of devastating illnesses. The world needs more people like him and lost a truly great man.

  1. Deepest sympathies! Andrew was a great force of kindness and talent. A very proud father of his boys!!! We will miss him at The National 911 Memorial & Museum. Cathy Blaney

  2. Andrew had away of taking any situation and turning it on its head making people see the different facets of the situation in a humorous light. He hired me to work under him back in October 2014. He was a great leader and one of the kindest men I’ve ever met. To see him go through so many trials regarding his health was truly heart wrenching and having all of our time with him cut so short is more so. Thinking of the time I’ve spent with him, it’s hard not to laugh because his humor and joyous nature is so infectious still to this day. My deepest condolences to his entire family especially Benjamin and Aaron. I have no doubt in my mind that he loves you unconditionally. A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. – Leonard Nimoy Adam Cruz
