Bernard Edward Small DDS

Dr. Bernard Edward Small of Tenafly, NJ passed away peacefully on December 31st at the age of 102. Born at home in Edgewater, NJ on December 1, 2021, he was the son of Julius Smolovit and Ada Smolovit (nee Rockowitz). He was a graduate of Columbia University and NYU Dental School. A proud army veteran, he served as a regimental dental surgeon for the First Calvary during WWII, stationed in Japan and the Philippines. After completing his military service he returned to his home town of Fort Lee, NJ where he practiced dentistry for over 40 years. Bernard was known for his keen intellect, terrific sense of humor and great generosity. He enjoyed a long, active retirement splitting his time between Montauk, NY and Tenafly. He was predeceased by his wives Blanche (nee Marten) and Sheila (nee Schatz), daughter Marjorie and granddaughter Margot Cohen. Survivors include his children: Judith Small (Ira Cohen), John Small (Karen Imbrogno), Betty Fuchs (Marc), and Edward Martin, his grandchildren Daniel Fuchs and Amanda Siegel and four great grandchildren.
