Samuel Zelmanowitz

April 28, 2019
Zelmanowitz, Samuel age 98, on Sunday April 28, 2019. Beloved wife to Aline Zelmanowitz. Loving father to Leah Jaffe of Arizona and Sharon Zelmanowitz of Connecticut. Sam was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He lived to be almost 99 years old. After escaping the holocost he returned to Europe as an American GI. He served honorably and bravely, landing on the Normandy with the third wave. He returned to the U.S. an American citizen and became a cutter in the garment district in New York City. In 1970 he put down his shears and became a food service manager in the family nursing home business. Sam spent many hours caring for his grandchildren, feeding them, playing with them, driving them and pushing their strollers until they dropped off to sleep. He worked hard his whole life and never let his family down. He was brilliant and funny. He loved the Bronx, the New York Times, the Yiddish language and most of all his family. We will miss him. There will be a graveside service on Tuesday May 30, 2019 at 12 Noon. For information, condelences or directions please call 201-947-EDEN or www.edenmemorial.com

My Dad lived a long productive life and will be remembered for many things. I will best remember him taking my daughter Nikki to nursery school every morning and then coming back to my apartment to help me feed and bathe my infant twins Michael and Eric. Then he would help put the boys down for a nap. This was all 30 years ago but I will be forever grateful for the help in those difficult months and years. My children will always have wonderful memories of their Zaida. This is how we will remember my father devoted to his family, helpful and happy to be surrounded by loved ones.
My heart is with Aline and the entire family during this difficult time. I loved talking to and laughing with Sam. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a smiling twinkle in his eye. My deepest sympathy.
Dear Leah and Sharon, My condolences to you , your families and of course your mom. I have many fond memories of Shlameck as do the girls. He was a warm exuberant man. He was always sweet loving and kind to the girls who knew him only as Shlamek. Our walks in Rananah, our meals at your summer home. Sitting at the pool. It was all good. Love and hugs to you all Betty
We will miss Szhlamek – He was a good neighbor- and a dear friend- always with a shmeykhl and a vitz-
Is the funeral at 1130 or 12. We will miss our neighbor and friend who was always funny and never had a bad word to say about anyone or anything. Koved zayn ondenk.
