  1. To The Family of Prof. Walter Brand. My deepest sympathy for your loss. You are in my prayers. Prof. Brand will be missed. He was a wonderful human being. God Bless His Soul!

  2. Walter was my colleague and I was very saddened to hear of his passing. He was always very kind to me and encouraged me early in my career at City Tech.

  3. From Nestor Micheli Morales To my best friend of my life. Walter…I will never forget you. And you know it. Nestor

  4. My deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Dr. Walter Brand during your time of grief and mourning. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers. Regards, Dr. Eric M. Rodriguez Social Science Department City Tech

  5. Walter will always be for me the glamorous, dashing man who among other gifts, introduced me to Mahler. We used to listen to his Symphony No 6 and No. 9 in D from the Leonard Bernstein – NY Philharmonic record in his place on Riverside Drive in the 1970s. Then with this gloomy music as a soundtrack, wed walk around his beloved Riverside Park in the winter with its palate of browns and grays. We were both wearing long, old mens overcoats, laughing at how beautiful everything was, how funny it was to be sporting these Bowery Bum coats with this austere music in our heads. We were walking, again, in Riverside Park last September when Walter told me his cancer had come back. I said, You mean, youre going to see Big Bob (a college friend who died in 06) before me Walter said, Yeah, me and Bob are going to have a big party up there. Im going to go for a walk in Riverside Park this winter. If I wear an old mans coat, it wont be ironic. Thanks for being my friend, Walter.

  6. I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Walter’s passing. I knew Walter for many years as we both were students at the CUNY Graduate Center. His honesty and passion affected me deeply and perhaps most of all, his sincerity. If it wasn’t for Walter, I would not have met my wife. Walter always had a way of making me laugh in seeing the absurdity in everyday life experiences. Even though I moved away from NYC, I always considered him one of the closest friends I ever had. Please accept my sincere condolences. Andrew Kolin

  7. Walter always sported a smile and friendly gesture that made everyone feel special. I enjoyed working with him at the college. My best to all that loved him. Justine Pawlukewicz

  8. Walter Brand was a part of my DNA, when I read of his passing a part of me died as well. I grew up with Walter and very few people knew better than me and my brother how special he was.

  9. I was a very good friend of Walter’s during Jr.Sr. High in Fair Lawn. I just came across Walter’s Obituary today (9242016) and just can’t believe that he passed over a year ago. We spoke a few years ago of getting together and it did not happen. I am so sorry to hear of Walters death and offer my sincere condolences to his family. Thinking good memories of you old friend.
