Joseph Casser

It is with sadness and much love that we announce that Joseph A Casser of Edgewater, New Jersey, died peacefully in his sleep at age 98. Mr. Casser was born in Englewood on August 19, 1918 to Rose Lerman Casser and Benjamin Casser. Mr. Casser graduated from Pennsylvania State University and received his law degree from Cornell Law School before reporting for duty and serving in a radio operator unit attached to the US Army in Europe during WWII. Upon his return, with his cousin Jerome Casser, they purchased a small bus company which became Casser Tours, which grew into the largest tour bus operator in the NY Metro area. Mr. Casser served as the president of the National Tour Brokers Association. While Mr. Casser didn’t practice law, he had a love of the U.S. Constitution and engaged in discussions of its legal intricacies all of his life. Mr. Casser helped many people during his life. He always said if you help one person you can change the world. He rarely shared what his charitable activities were. When local banks’ redlining practices made it difficult for African-Americans to obtain mortgages, he and his brother Leonard loaned families money. He helped his employees’ families when they needed medical care or funds for their children’s education. He enjoyed playing all sports, especially those which he could include his children and grandchildren because he could teach us the finer points, thrilled when we were able to surpass him. However, as much as he coached us, he will always remain by far the best golfer in our foursome. Mr. Casser is survived by his three children, Karen Casser, Brett Casser, and Roni Casser and four granddaughters, Brittany Casser, Sydney Casser Schiff, Kyle Casser, and Erica Casser Schiff and his long-time partner, Thelma Cohen. Mr. Casser was predeceased by his brother, Dr. Leonard Casser. May his memory be a source of strength and a blessing. Funeral Services will be held on Friday January 6, 2017 at 10:00 am at Eden memorial Chapels, 327 Main Street, Fort Lee, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Wounded Warrior Project or Disabled American Veterans.
