Muriel Reid of Fort Lee, formerly of Englewood, passed away on February 23, 2025. The daughter of the late Ruth and Selig Katchen of Bradley Beach, NJ, Muriel grew up at the seashore where she developed a lifelong love of the ocean and the beach. She was a graduate of Asbury Park High School, the University of Michigan, and the Columbia University School of Social Work.

Over her career, Muriel worked for the Neurological Institute of Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, the Ridgewood and Tenafly Public Schools, Jewish Family Service in Elizabeth and Wayne, the Pascack Mental Health Center, and in private practice in Englewood and Fort Lee as a dedicated social work professional. She was also an ardent peace activist in the 1960s and 70s, working with Women’s Strike for Peace and the Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy. She was a longstanding member of Congregation Adas Emuno in Leonia, NJ.

She is survived by her loving and cherished daughters Rachel (Pete Clardy) and Naomi (Chris Ciaburro), her grandchildren Rose Greenbaum (Alex), Laurent Martin (Helena), Emmanuelle Martin, David Clardy, Sophia Ryterband and Jules Clardy as well as her great grandchildren Henry and Beatrice Greenbaum, Theo and Ender Martin, and Ada Martin. She was predeceased David Kemper, her devoted and cherished partner of 31 years. Service will be held at Eden Memorial Chapel, Fort Lee, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Congregation Adas Emuno Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund (www.adasemuno.org).
